Councillor Vince Mckay is a local Metis, born and raised in Hay River. Vince’s families are the McKays and Courtoreilles who have a long history with the Hay River fishing community, and the history of Hay River runs strong through Vince’s blood. Vince, his spouse Barb and 2 children, Conner and Helene continue the family legacy by making Hay River home.
Now serving his 4th term on Town Council, Vince is motivated by his love for the community and wanting to see Hay River thrive into the future. Looking back, Vince fondly remembers the role he played in implementing the now-popular Fisherman’s Wharf through collaboration with a former Recreation and Programming Coordinator, Lori Uhlenberg.
Vince has worked for the Government of the Northwest Territories as a Correction’s Supervisor at South Mackenzie Correctional Centre for the past 18 years and is also the owner of Westech Fire & Safety.
Educated in Emergency Service, through Lakeland College and the College of the Rockies, Vince is a 23-year veteran volunteer firefighter, currently serving as Deputy Chief. Vince also contributes his time coaching minor sports and is active in the community as a member of the Hay River Golf course and Royal Canadian Legion.
Vince enjoys working for the residents of Hay River and making a positive contribution to the advancement of Hay River.
