Evacuation Alert Cancelled

The Town of Hay River is removing the Evacuation Alert status effective 4:00 PM Tuesday, June 6, 2023. The risk from the recent fire has been reduced and the fire has been in “Being Held” since May 26, 2023 while crews continue to address the remaining hot spots. The support services including the Hay River Regional Health Centre have been restored to normal operations and the Town of Hay River has instituted Fire Smart measures to further reduce risk.

The Town of Hay River has instigated a number of Fire Smart measures including clearing out underbrush and mowing the dry grass areas. This has further mitigated the specific risk to the Town of Hay River. Citizens are encouraged to institute Fire Smart measures on their own properties to protect them moving forward. To access Fire Smart resources, go to https://hayriver.com/2023-wildfire-updates/ or click the link on the Hay River website homepage.

The risk of fire may be present throughout the summer due to expected dry conditions, and we will likely have smoky conditions from fires across Canada. If the risk from the current fire east of town increases or a future risk to the Town of Hay River appears, the town may choose to reinstate the Evacuation Alert.
