Emergency Plan
The purpose of the Community Emergency Plan (CEP) is to facilitate a prompt, coordinated, and comprehensive response to emergencies with the potential to affect Hay River operations and residents. The Town of Hay River and Partner Agencies review and update the CEP annually.
Flood / Breakup Preparedness and Information
The community of Hay River is susceptible to springtime flooding, particularly in the low-lying West Channel/Vale Island areas, driven by ice jams and spring snowmelt (freshet). Each year, the Town of Hay River and Partner Agencies monitor and prepare residents and organizations for the risks of potential flooding.
Wildfire Preparedness and Information
Hay River is surrounded by Northern Boreal Forest, dominated by a mix of coniferous and deciduous trees. Like all forested communities, risks of wildfire exist during summer periods. Governments, organizations, and residents all have responsibilities for managing risks and being prepared in when risks are elevated.

Local Emergency Management Organization (LEMO)
The Local Emergency Management Organization is a committee that consists of Town of Hay River members and community partner agencies. Regulated by bylaw, the LEMO has granted authorities for emergency planning, response, and recovery. They play a vital role in ensuring the safety of the community.
