Ken Latour

Mayor Ken Latour's family moved to Hay River down from Tuktoyaktuk in the early 70's and it has been home ever since. Ken attended high school as a boarder in Winnipeg and then went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from Princeton University.

Since graduating, Ken worked in Hay RIver for the NWT Power Coporation before going overseas to teach English at an Indonesian University for two years where he learned to speak Indonesian and developed a fondness for motorcycles and mangos.

Upon returning to Canada Ken went to Ft. Resolution, taking up a post as the community adult educator for Aurora College, and spent five rewarding years in that community. In 2002, he returned to Hay River where, with his partner, he became a first-time homeowner a year later.

In the last five years before joining Council, Mayor Latour has worked as an adult educator, as a consultant in the education field, has served two years on the Hay River District Education Authority, and has been a small business owner. He is looking forward to the challenges of serving on Council and the opportunity to give back to his community.
